Frequently Asked Questions About Recycling and Recycle City
We've included a number of common questions posed by customers at our recycling center
in West Sacramento. Here they are:
What are Recycle City's hours of operation?
Monday and Wednesday-Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We are closed on Tuesday and
Sunday.
What is #6-PS plastic and where can I get it?
#6-PS plastic stands for polystyrene and has a CRV price of $3.56 per pound. In order to
receive CRV on these containers, they must be labeled with the California Redemption
Value message. We are unaware of any CRV beverage that comes in a polystyrene
container.
Do you recycle cardboard?
No. Cardboard may be recycled at International Paper Company in West Sacramento.
Please call them at 916-371-4634 for more information.
Do you buy steel and iron?
No.
Do you take appliances, such as microwaves, washing machines, and refrigerators?
No. You may want to contact your city or county government solid waste disposal offices to
find out where appliances are recycled.
What is a commingled CRV price?
A commingled CRV price is the amount paid for CRV containers that are mixed with non-
CRV containers. Commingled CRV prices are only paid on aluminum, glass, #1-PETE
plastic, and #2-HDPE plastic beverage containers.
How do I make my recycling transaction go faster?
Please have your bottles and cans sorted by aluminum, glass, and plastic before arriving at
Recycle City. In addition, be sure that excess moisture and debris are removed from the
containers.
Do you pay CRV on beverage containers by weight or count?
Normally, we weigh empty CRV beverage container loads. However, if you have 50 or fewer
beverage containers, you may request to have these containers counted. The per container
price is $0.05 for containers less than 24 ounces and $0.10 for containers 24 ounces and
above.
Do I need government-issued identification (e.g., driver’s license) to recycle?
For CRV transactions over $99, you must provide either a driver's license, government-
issued California identification card, or license plate number from your vehicle. For all scrap
metal transactions, a driver's license or government-issued California identification card,
and license plate number from your vehicle must be provided before Recycle City can
purchase your material. In addition, you must provide us with an address for both scrap
metal transactions and donations of unwanted e-waste such as televisions.
